Am back –> Hilarious ad! Google Chrome vs Yoga
Oct 03

Hiya people!

One of the reasons why I almost stopped Stumbling was because I couldnt find a Stumble It addon for Google Chrome. I had started using Chrome the day it was released, and I was very satisfied with it!

The I’ll-take-my-time-to-load-you-go-have-a-cup-of-coffee Firefox was nothing compared to Chrome. Chrome boosted my productivity like anything! Safari looked pitifully featureless and unstable when compared to Chrome. Uh, did someone mention IE?

Anyway, today, I was determined to do something about Stumbling for Chrome. If I didn’t find an addon, I was bent upon making some script of some sorts. But thankfully, Blogote had a small technique listed…

Its pretty simple!

If you’re on Google Chrome right now, hit Ctrl + B to unhide your bookmarks toolbar (i.e. if it isnt already visible). The drag the small Stumble ‘It link’ below onto that bar.

Stumble it

Once done, this is how it will look like -

Now when you find a page which you would so like to share with the other 6 million people in the SU Universe, simply click on the Stumble it link on your bookmarks bar, and you’re in business! It takes  you to a Stumble Upon page where you can quickly write a small review on the site, select the category, and submit it.

So far, there is no way of integrating that amazingly green Stumble button, which will help you to escape the unprofitable boredom offered by a page which you happened to visit, into Chrome. But to do that, just visit StumbleUpon, and click on any link there. There’s this new javascript Stumble Upon bar which will follow you whenever you visit any site in the Stumble Upon Universe from the SU website, which you can use to keep Stumbling. This bar has almost all the features of the regular Stumble Upon toolbar, except for favouriting a page, and can be used by even user’s who haven’t signed up/in.

Ars Technica gives a better outlay of the javascript SU tool -

Now, new visitors to StumbleUpon.com will not only see a redesigned homepage that highlights popular content and ratings from the community, but they can click a “Start Stumbling” button to launch a JavaScript toolbar at the top of the browser window. No software install is necessary, and this should work in any browser, not just IE and Firefox. This toolbar is a bit less functional than StumbleUpon’s browser extension, though, as users can’t filter for specific kinds of content or, of course, use any of the service’s community advantages. But rating sites and Stumbling for more works perfectly well, offering a slice of StumbleUpon’s “best of the web” approach. The rub lies within the pseudo-toolbar’s “Save” button: clicking it prompts users for registration to actually save their Stumbling and begin participating in the greater community.

Anyway, that’s Stumble Upon for you ladies and gentlemen! Enjoy Stumbling with Google Chrome!

    Hello Mick!
I agree, it looks weird without the SU toolbar. But then, Chrome with some sort of stumbling is better than Chrome without stumbling at all :) I’m doing good. Another semester has finished. Exams soon. Extremely tied up with college work, but otherwise fine :)

    And you Mick, how’re you?

Chip, thanks for the link :)
